Gurus

The syllable gu means shadows
The syllable ru, he who disperses them,
Because of the power to disperse darkness
the guru is thus named.

– Advayataraka Upanishad 14—18, verse 5

In Hinduism, Guru is regarded as the most important person who guides you in the journey of life. Shobha has been very fortunate to have received blessings and direction from some very knowledgable and very respected individuals in Indian (Hindustani) Classical Music.

They have been instrumental in the success and fame that Shobha has received.

Late Shri Madhavrao Joshi

Late Shri Vamanrao Rajurkar

Late Pt. C. R. Vyas

In addition to these Gurus, Shobha is also fortunate to get lessons from Late Pt. Balasaheb Puchhawale for tappas. Shri Ramdas Mungre has also been mentoring Shobha on various aspects of Khayal gayaki and thumri. Pt. Babanrao Haldankar has been instrumental in finessing  Shobha’s gayaki for Agra and Jaipur gharana.

We offer our salutations to these Gurus.
