Biography

As a child when her mother sang bhajans and father played the flute, she listened to them in rapt attention. This first response to the magic of musical notes became a serious involvement and a commitment for her in later life.

With the encouragement of her parents, she started taking lessons in music at a tender age and by nine she began singing before a small audience around her home. Her serious study in Hindustani Classical Music started under guidance of noted musician in Wardha (Maharashtra). Performing on stages since her childhood, she was also excelling in her academic studies. Her eventual involvement in this art enhanced her concentration, giving ample of awards in drawing, painting, dramas and sports activities.

With time, she finally derived that music is her aim of life. Since then she started pursuing lessons under Guru Shishya Parampara.

After marriage, Shobha moved to Indore where she was guided by Late. Shri Madhavrao Joshi for ten years; his lessons gave a depth to her dedication towards ongoing talim. She then took lessons from Late Pt. Vamanrao Rajurkar of Gwalior Gharana (father in law of Vidushi Malini Rajurkar) and Padmabhushan Late Pt. C.R. Vyas. and Late Pt. Balasaheb Puchhawale, to pursue intrinsic qualities of Khayal Gayaki and assimilate her unique ideas in her performance.

In these recent years Shobha has, to a great extent, developed her unique style of performing various genres, may it be khayal gayaki, dadra, kajari, thumri, bhajan or abhanga.

She presents concert in its clarity, adorning it with the splendid modulation of swaras and mesmerizing her audience with sweet melodious compositions.
